Torn between a cot and a cotbed?

We’re a little biased. That’s why we’ve set up a website about cot beds instead of cots. Besides being better value for money, there are a host of other reasons why fitting a cot bed into your new baby’s nursery may prove a wiser choice in the long run.

Longer usage

You know your baby won’t stay a cute, cuddly and immobile 8 pounder forever. After all, he or she is going to double their weight in less than six months and continue to shoot up like a regular beanstalk. A cot bed grows with your baby, and can accommodate them until they are at least five years old, so you get more value for money. After that you may choose to skip the junior bed phase and go straight for a single bed, which could last well into their teens. Whatever choice you make, a cot bed gives you that extra flexibility and greater options.

Cot beds are cheaper in the long run

Why spend good money on the equivalent cost of a sofa, for a bed that will last just two years or less? When you can spend a similar amount of money on a cot bed that will keep for five years or more?

Larger space for bigger babies

Generally, cot mattresses tend to be 60cm x 120cm long, while cot bed mattresses are 70cm x 140 cm long. It may not seem like much. But when your little one’s no longer such a tiddler, and is wriggling 360° under the covers while in dreamland, those few inches could be the difference between the occasional head bang and a smooth night’s sleep.

Ultimately, it’s an individual choice. It can depend on how must storage space you have in your home (a cot needs to be dismantled and put away once your baby’s outgrown it), and how many children you’re hoping to have. For example, having babies three years or less apart, will ensure that a cot is used for longer – so that may also influence what you go for. Buying baby nursery furniture is an investment, as making a wise choice could save you money down the line. So it’s worth weighing all the factors up, and buying what will worst best for your future family’s needs.
